Wilkinson James was born in 2008 when Liz Wilkinson and AJ Scheiber met up and merged their singing and songwriting into a musical partnership that one fan described as "the bastard offspring of June Carter Cash and Townes Van Zandt." Somewhere along the line that duo became a full band, adding pedal steel, fiddle, and saxophone to Liz and AJ’s tightly knit harmonies and classic-yet-fresh original tunes. Their first (self-titled) album, released in 2014, showed their love of folk, honky-tonk, and country blues. The follow-up, Abandon, added touches of jazz, torch, and swing to their folk / honky-tonk base, while keeping the focus on original songwriting and eclectic, carefully curated covers. Marty Lamar Band

Marty Lamar Band

 -Marty Lamar
Vocals, Guitar

Grew up in Farmington, MN. His interest in music began at the ripe old age of three years old when he would hum a tune while playing with cars and trucks instead of making motor noises. He learned to play guitar at eight years of age on a guitar with “mile high” strings. Somehow, he never gave up.

Marty met Bruce Carlson during their college days at the University of Minnesota. The two freshmen met at the campus radio station WMMR. Marty and Bruce hosted the morning show at the small station. They did a weekend radio marathon to raise money for Leukemia research and were delighted to have Chuck Knapp, famed radio personality from the Twin Cities, as their guest.

As Marty and Bruce worked together they became fast friends and discovered they both had a love for live music. Marty had been playing guitar since the age of 8 and Bruce played saxophone in his high school band. Bruce learned to play bass guitar and soon they were working on performing music live. As an added bonus, their vocals happened to work great together!

The two have been performing music together ever since. In the Scott Daniels Show Bruce Carlson played the bass and sang harmony vocals while Marty Lamar played lead guitar and also sang harmonies. The band played country covers and a variety of original songs. They performed at venues throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Scott Daniels Show even shot a television pilot for a network television show.

In the years following, Bruce and Marty found themselves working together in a number of bands and also performing duo concerts for a variety of church and festival events. Marty Lamar has had a successful solo career working with producer, Dick McVey in Nashville, TN. Marty has written and recorded several songs that received national and international airplay! Many have been on the charts here and abroad.

-Bruce Carlson
Vocals, Bass, Harmonica

NEWS!!!! Bruce Carlson has retired from MLB to spend more time with family. Thank you, Bruce for all of your contributions to this band over the years. We wish Bruce all the best and hope that he will bless us with a guest appearance on occasion!

-Vince Geiger
Vocals, Guitar, Wise Sage

Vince grew up in Richfield and took his first broadcast job in southeastern Montana.  He was lucky enough to run sound and do some vocals for a local band of great guys while living in Montana.  He bought his first guitar while living there.  His next broadcasting job was in western Wisconsin.  In 1985 he moved back to Richfield to work at WLTE FM.    He was there for 27 years until a format change saw the entire air staff let go.  From there Vince moved to WDGY and worked there until he retired in 2021.   Thankfully before Vince retired, he met Marty Lamar.  Marty was a long-time listener and invited Vince to see him and Bruce Carlson play at a coffee shop.  Eventually the trio got together to play some music and soon after Vince was asked to join the band.   Prior to Vince joining Marty’s band, he had played with a small cover band along with playing on the worship team at his church.

-Rich Passmore
Drums, Percussion

Rich has been playing drums since seeing The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. He played with a local band in Corning, NY from 1972-1974, before dropping out of the music scene to attend college. Many years later, after attending a James Taylor concert with Russ Kunkel on drums in 2003, his wife Maggie talked him into starting to play again. Since then he's played with a variety of pickup bands in the Twin Cities, joining the Marty Lamar band in the fall of 2021.

-Brad Reuter
Bass, Vocals

Brad grew up in the wonderful town of Bemidji, where he started his music interests early, with piano lessons having an emphasis on theory. This was followed by 8 years of violin/orchestra, then dabbling with guitar, and singing in church choirs and worship teams.

Brad first got to know Vince Geiger at church in 2006 when they were asked to join the worship team: “Maybe Vince could play guitar and Brad play bass?” Although they accepted, their confidence was so low that they sat hiding behind the organ while they played! The two would get together at Vince’s house each Saturday to practice the church music, and they eventually also tried their hand at other songs — mainly medium rock from the 60s & 70s. After some time, they were able to add a couple other players and form a covers band, playing at a variety of venues. Several years later, that band ran out of gas and broke up.

Sometime after that, Vince joined Marty’s band. Brad had a few cameo appearances with MLB, subbing for their bassist, Bruce Carlson. In 2024, Bruce retired from the band, and Marty and the gang asked Brad to join as a regular member. You can sample their style HERE!

An acoustic troubadour, Darrell’s been honing his skills and crafting a timeless setlist for over 35 years. Art Vandalay

Art Vandalay is a Twin Cities-based band that blends the vintage sounds of The Band and the easy-going vibe of J.J. Cale, creating laid-back Americana music with songs that are “impossibly catchy” (Duluth News Tribune).

Their latest album, Champagne & Chandeliers has been hailed as a “sonic feast” (The Norman Transcript). The songs on the album are Americana rock with songs that are a perfect companion for late-night drives and taking the long way home. Their single, “Never See You Again” is an infectious rock ‘n’ roll tune (co-written by folk singer Jaspar Lepak) that Americana UK hails as “a classic ‘kiss-off’ to a relationship song.”

Throughout the album, the songs explore choices made at every crossroads and how life speeds up and slows down – from the slow groove of “Traffic” to the rocking closer “If You Love Me.” Lauded for his timeless songwriting, Brandon Henry shines on songs like “Architects” and “Eye of the Beholder.” These, along with all the other tracks on the album, have been a staple of Art Vandalay’s live shows, including their swampy cover of “Angel and Delilah” -- written by folk singer Eliza Gilkyson.

With loose energy, smart lyrics, infectious grooves, and a vibey Americana spirit, Art Vandalay has become a fixture of the midwest Americana scene.

The Eclectics

The Eclectics history began during the throes of the Covid pandemic. Bassist John Bergquist and banjoist Phil Nusbaum realized that they could work together by passing musical selections back and forth over the internet and using their computers to record their parts. The result was promising enough that when people started congregating again, John and Phil got together with fiddler Nick Martin to form a trio. Because of their broad musical interests, the trio adopted the name Eclectics. Eclectic is a good name for a group that relishes traditional fiddle music, good old bluegrass, as well as pop and the envelope-pushing instrumentals Phil writes. The group not only entertains by playing a variety of songs and tunes, but has been successful presenting “Inside Bluegrass,” during which the Eclectics tell audiences how a bluegrass group is organized, and play plenty of examples demonstrating the points made. What’s next for the Eclectics? Nick, John and Phil most enjoy having each other to share their musical interests, and audiences to play for. The goal is to keep on playing worthy music for audiences who appreciate the variety. Sample the sound of their strings below and their website!

Darrell Pipo

Darrell has previously joined us with “The Bored.” Growing up in Richfield, MN, Darrel learned licks and practiced rhythms in the basement of his parent’s house during his teens and then brought those songs to the coffee houses of St.Cloud, MN in the mid-90’s. An acoustic troubadour, Darrell’s been honing his skills and crafting a timeless setlist for over 35 years. The songs he plays are influenced and written by the garage rock and outlaw country artists of the 60’s, 70’s, & 80’s. Utilizing all of his extremities, he’s the Geddy Lee of the acoustic guitar. Wilkinson James

The Long Goodbyes

The Long Goodbyes hit a sweet spot someplace within the eclectic constellation of Power Pop, Classic Country, Americana, and Rock & Roll. Four of five members (Ev, Garth, Peter and Tony) watched their kids grow up together at the same school, as they themselves grew into sure-handed songwriters and performers. The 5th guy (Jeff) joined last year to complete the lineup. TLGs will get and keep your attention via smart originals laced with gripping melodies, tight harmonies, and quirky lyrics. They also like to put their own twist on a few, nicely curated covers. By the end of the night, you’ll be echoing the words of one club owner, “Best show of the year!” Click here for a sample of their music.

The Eclectics
